2017 NVC Finals - 4.20.2017

The GW New Venture Competition is in its eleventh year. The Competition provides a unique opportunity for members of the GW community - students, faculty, staff, and alumni - to compete for substantial cash and in-kind prizes, network with experienced entrepreneurs, receive mentorship, attend workshops and gain access to additional resources.

Ventures compete in one of three tracks.

  • New Ventures are standard commercial ventures, and most submissions will compete in this track.
  • Technology Ventures are those that have a new proprietary technology, discovery or invention at its core. Technology Ventures will have some sort of intellectual property and generally have evidence of the feasibility of that core technology.
  • Social Ventures generally have a transformative solution to a pressing need or social problem, and this social mission takes priority over its financial mission.

The competition is conducted in four rounds.

Round 1

Once it has been determined that the venture is eligible to participate, each team must submit a Form Fill Description online describing their venture, a Concise (50-word) Summary and a Video by February 6, 2019

Those who advance to Round 2 (Quarter-finalists) will be notified directly by February 8, 2019.

Round 2

Team selected to advance as a quarter-finalist must submit, a 5-page Feasibility Analysis, a Business Model Canvas and a Concise (20-word) Summary by February 28, 2019. Teams must also submit a revised video.

Announcements will be made for those who advance to Round 3 (Semi-Finalists) by March 5, 2019.

Round 3

Teams selected to advance as a semi-finalist will pitch to a panel of judges on April 1, 2, or 3, 2019. Four winners from each of those sessions will advance to the Finals. Semi-final Prizes will be awarded to the best teams in the New Ventures, Technology Ventures, and Social Ventures Tracks.

The selected finalists will deliver their final presentations to a panel of judges and a live audience at the GW New Venture Competition Finals on April 18, 2019 in the Jack Morton Auditorium.

The Grand Prizes will be awarded at that event, including an Audience Choice Award which invites individuals in the audience to vote for their favorite team.
