Leo X. (Lex) McCusker, PhD, is the Director of the Student Entrepreneurship Programs at George Washington University, where he also directs the GW New Venture Competition. He came to GW from the School of Business at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, where he served as Dean from 2006 through 2009. At Stevens Institute he taught and did research in entrepreneurship, especially technology-based entrepreneurship spawned from university research.

Prior to joining Stevens Institute, Dr. McCusker worked for 23 years at AT&T and Bell Laboratories in the areas of software development, professional technology services, technology licensing and intrapreneurship. He was CEO of the AT&T text-to-speech startup, Natural VoicesTM.

He is a member of the Dartmouth Entreprenurial Network of DC, and he is an angel investor and member of the Mid-Atlantic chapter of the Keiretsu Forum and the DC ArchAngels.

Lex is also the Principal Investigator (PI) for the NSF I-Corps Site Program at GW.



Lex holds a doctorate in Experimental Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Dartmouth College.
